Scope of Practice
Our first session is centered around understanding your story. We’ll explore what brought you to therapy, how long you’ve been experiencing your current challenges, what you’ve already tried, and what has (or hasn’t) worked.
Because I practice from a primarily solution-focused lens, we’ll also begin identifying what “better” would look like for you and how we can begin creating meaningful shifts. The first session is also a space to ensure we feel like a good fit. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about what’s ahead.
I typically recommend weekly sessions, especially in the beginning, to build a strong therapeutic relationship and create meaningful momentum. As we continue working together, we will space out sessions further in hopes that towards the end you won’t be needing any sessions at all. That being said, I understand that life with a newborn can feel unpredictable. I’m happy to collaborate with you to find a frequency that feels supportive and realistic for your current season.
Yes — many clients find it helpful to engage in both individual and couples therapy at the same time. Individual therapy offers space to process personal emotions, identity shifts, and stress responses, while couples sessions focus on communication patterns and relational dynamics.
However, if you are participating in couples therapy with me, I would not also serve as your individual therapist. Maintaining separate therapists helps protect the neutrality and integrity of the couples work. It ensures that the couples space remains balanced and that neither partner feels there is a “shared alliance” outside of session. This structure supports emotional safety and trust within the therapeutic process.
That said, individual and couples therapists can collaborate — with your written consent — to ensure alignment around shared goals. When appropriate, coordination between providers can be helpful in making sure all work is moving toward the same overall objective
It’s very common for one partner to feel unsure about starting therapy. Hesitation often comes from fear of being blamed, misunderstood, or “ganged up on.”
I approach couples work from a neutral, collaborative stance — not as a referee, but as a guide. The goal isn’t to determine who’s right or wrong, but to strengthen the partnership. If your partner is uncertain, we can discuss ways to approach the conversation that feel less threatening and more invitational. In some cases, starting with individual sessions can also be helpful.
I work with both pregnant and postpartum clients. Pregnancy can bring its own emotional shifts — anxiety, identity changes, relationship stress, or fear of the unknown. Beginning therapy during pregnancy can often make the postpartum transition feel more supported and less overwhelming.
Whether you’re preparing for birth or navigating life after baby, we tailor the work to your current season.
